Some information on my personal life.

My Career

I am a System Analyst by profession with over 20 years of experience in various disciplines, recently in Geographic Information Systems and High Availability databases. I have worked or contracted for NorTel Networks (Northern Telecom), Agriculture Canada, Hewlett-Packard, managed I.T. at Arcas Group (analytics/demographic modeling), Vercom ( SaskEnergy/TransGas), GIS at Kanotech (Florida Power & Light, AutoDesk, AT&T, Washington Sanitary and Sewer Commision), Information Services Corp. of Saskatchewan (Land Titles/Sask Geomatics, mostly in Oil & Gas Titles and GIS) and now SaskTel. I hold a Canadian Government Level II security clearance and held a Radio General Maritime Certificate (RGMC) which was the Canadian top level commercial marine radio operators license. While working a summer job at Northern Telecom as a student, I suggested a manufacturing process improvement at the Winnipeg Digital Access plant which was implemented and they paid me a large bonus, which I used to start a successful cabinet manufacturing business and then later an agricultural high clearance spraying business.

About Me

I was born and raised on a Saskatchewan wheat farm near Yorkton Saskatchewan, Canada, where my retired parents still live. My great-grandfather settled in Saskatchewan in 1896 and my parents still own the family homestead and other land, two sections in total.

Along with my interest in system design, I spend most of my time with the family, renovating houses, playing guitar and our vacations are usually spent camping. I have used Linux and Open Source software since the mid 1990's and have written many applications professionally as well as a web based GIS OpenGL hardware rendered application that utilized graphics hardware to render global elevation data with satellite photography texture maps.
